Also a super nice power bank
I first saw the Acrunu light when I dropped in to Mod Bikes several weeks ago. On a recent visit, I decided to buy one. After using it for a few days, I have a few thoughts.
First, it’s nice and bright. Next, it’s attractive, even when turned off. The battery lasts for seven or eight hours of continuous use and recharges in three or four hours. Charging is via USB-C, so it’s somewhat future-proof.
Less desirable, it uses thumb screws to hold itself together and to the handlebars. I wasn’t able to get them tight enough, even with the help of vise grip pliers. Fortunately, I was able to swap out the smaller pair of thumb screws for standard metric hex screws, which I could tighten with an Allen wrench. This helped, but my bars are tapered, and the Acruni’s mounting brackets wouldn’t reach the straight sections where I could get a solid grip. That left the Acrunu slipping and drooping, pointing at the ground instead of straight ahead.
So, I ordered a riser bar extension rack, an inexpensive length of straight carbon tube with its own set of mounting brackets long enough to go on top of my bars. I was able to get a good grip on it with the Acrunu brackets and my hex screws, at last.
The last comments I have are gripes, but not deal breakers. The bar has five individual lights in a single row. The switch allows you to turn on one, four, or all five for continuous use. Why not two or three? And the flashing mode allows only all five. Again, I would like more options.
Mod sells the Acrunu for about $80.00. I found one higher price and several lower prices on the Web. YMMV.
Hi Phil - thank you for the review!
Bright, effective, really makes me feel confident at night. I do wish the charger cable were a little longer. It is like a foot long so recharging can be tricky.
