The Adventure Never Stops – Catching up with 79 year old rider, Robert Fletcher

The Adventure Never Stops – Catching up with 79 year old rider, Robert Fletcher

Since riding his bicycle through the French and English countryside in the 1970s, Robert has made riding his lifelong obsession. Since then, he’s gone on to ride major world tour routes like his most recent trip from Anchorage Alaska, to Mexico City, a distance of almost 6,500 miles.

Courtesy of amazing and scenic routes from Adventure Cycling, a group of over 300k riders across the US, Robert has spent the past 8 years seeking adventure. His impressive feats have pushed him to explore even more long distance routes across the U.S.

On his latest adventure, Robert dropped by the MOD HQ to check out and test ride our MOD Black. He ended up taking it 340 miles on the Texas Hill country loop from downtown Austin to Fredericksburg. A 7 day trip through the heart of Texas in the summer heat can be especially tough, but Robert’s MOD Black was up to the challenge. The advanced torque sensing pedal assist allowed for an easier ride while also extending his range. Even though the MOD Black sports a full suspension kit, Robert still had ample space for all his belongings on the integrated rear rack.

Robert was born Robert Fletcher in Edmonton, Alberta and worked as an educator before retiring over 20 years ago. He has now lived in Costa Rica for the past 5 years where he rents e-bikes to natives and tourists looking for a better way to explore town.

For his 80th birthday, Robert intends to set a new world record for the longest distance travelled on an e-bike. He plans to ride the Pan American highway from Fairbanks, Alaska all the way to Panama City.
