Cathedral of Junk

The Cathedral of Junk may take the cake when it comes to keeping Austin weird. This backyard on an otherwise suburban street is filled with imagination. From car bumpers to beer signs, this is an accumulation of 30 years of “junk.” An appointment is required and can be scheduled at (512) 299-7413. Entrance Fee: $5

This sculpture is funky! Sitting right off South Congress, you might have driven right past it without even noticing it… we sure did! Dedicated to honoring South Austin’s culture, this piece is definitely keeping Austin weird.

Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds

Located right by Allen Boots, Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds shows a different side to Austin. An ATX staple since 1984, this retail shop is filled with costumes, wigs, vintage clothing, glitz and gaud! Take a walk on the wild side in this eclectic store.

5. Food

Voodoo Doughnuts

Voodoo is both iconic and weird, and we're lucky to have one of the only Voodoo shops in the country. We're talking next level raised yeast doughnuts, cake doughnuts, vegan doughnuts... Grab a Voodoo Doll or opt for an even more adventurous snack 😉 Voodoo is cash only, but there are ATMs available!

6. Nature

Yippie Ki Yay Pease District Park

Truly one of the most unique installation in Austin, Patrick Doughtery’s Yippie Ki Yay at Pease Park will make you feel like you’re in a different world! The Stickwork from the internationally acclaimed environmentalist artist consists of whirling architectural sculptures from locally-harvest saplings. It is a sight to see!

On a mission to preserve the legacy of Austin’s counterculture and art, SouthPop showcases vintage posts, music memorabilia, and a whole lot more.
