We couldn’t have been prouder to represent Austin and the electric bike space this March at the Future Mobility Panel at South By Southwest!
If you aren’t familiar South By Southwest (SXSW) is an annual conglomerate of film, interactive media, music festivals and conferences that takes place right in the middle of our home base in Austin, Texas, every March. The event brings hundreds of thousands of forward-thinking individuals to town to learn, network, (and party).
MOD BIKES was hand-selected to participate in the Future Mobility Showcase within the 2019 Trade Show, and we popped up at the Austin Convention Center March 10-13. The Trade Show itself is a 4-day hands-on experience highlighting innovative brands from various sectors. The Future Mobility Showcase was a brand new addition to the Trade Show, the first of its kind at SXSW and aimed to bring awareness to sustainable transportation. Our line of high-quality, easy-to-use electric bikes were on display along with a global collection of transportation-focused companies.
Not only was it incredible to showcase our collection of e-bikes in front of a global audience, it was inspiring to see so many amazing brands fighting for and highlighting sustainability. Everyday we do our best to show that there are easy and fun ways to be environmentally conscious, and it was so exciting to see thousands of visitors from around the world interested in joining the fight to protect our planet.
Being our first year in business, it was surreal to be showcasing our electric bikes next to global brands like Virgin Galactic as well as amazing local companies like Firefly Aerospace.Every company in the expo is doing amazing work, but there were a few that really stood out to us. Some of our favorites were:
- 1) Shell: The oil and gas company featured a hydrogen fuel-cell engine in a Toyota sedan. Shell believes the low-emissions fuel can help power the future without contributing to climate change.
- 2) EmbraerX: EmbraerX aims the enhancement of urban air mobility acceptance in a human-centric experience. The company is part of the Uber Elevate Network, a group of innovative companies sharing the vision that on-demand aviation has the potential to radically improve urban mobility, improving the quality of life for people who live in congested urban communities.
- 3) Citio: The French start-up provides innovative solutions for public transportation. By using big data and artificial intelligence, Citio optimizes transport networks through machine learning and data visualizations.
